Applying for a Chinese Business Visa (M-Visa)

Purpose: The Chinese Business Visa (M-Visa) is intended for engaging in business negotiations, trainings, exhibitions, conferences, and promotional events.

Who Should Apply: Interns and trainees should also apply for this visa type, though slightly different conditions apply (see the article on Work Visa for details).

Invitation Requirement: A company invitation from China is essential for the business visa application.

Visa Duration and Entry Types: Depending on the company invitation, business visas are granted for stays of 30, 60, or 90 days, and in exceptional cases, up to 180 days. The visa can be issued for single entry, double entry (within 90 or 180 days), or multiple entries (within 6 to 24 months).

The double-entry visa is particularly necessary if you plan to travel from China to Hong Kong, Macao, or a neighboring country and then re-enter China. The second entry date must be specified in advance in the Chinese visa application. Entry dates must be within 90 or 180 days of visa issuance, although the departure date may be later.

Required Documents for Your Visa Application:

To apply for a Chinese business visa, you need:

• a) A correctly filled application form.
• b) A valid passport.
• c) A recent biometric passport photo.
• d) A business or company invitation that meets specific formal and content requirements.

Specifications for the Company Invitation:

1. The invitation should be on the letterhead of the inviting company/institution, including the full company name, address, and phone number.
2. It must include the name and date of birth of the invitee.
3. It must specify the precise purpose (e.g., exploratory meeting, business deal, etc.), the time frame, and the nature of the business relationship (e.g., subsidiary, supplier, etc.).
4. The invitation must be stamped with the company/institution's seal and hand-signed.
5. It must clearly display the date of issuance.
6. Ensure the invitation is created in English or Chinese, scanned in China, and emailed to you as a PDF.
